Anna Pouliou
Anna Pouliou is the Head of Privacy at Chanel. She is based in Paris and her team provides advice on privacy legal, regulatory and policy issues globally. She is also one of the 27 members of the GDPR Multi-stakeholder Expert Group advising the European Commission on the Implementation of the GDPR, as the representative of Business Europe. Anna is a member of the Scientific Committee of the Italian ASSO DPO and of the Editorial Board of the Data Protection Leader legal magazine. She is a regular speaker on privacy and regulatory matters. She is fluent in Greek, English, French, Italian, Spanish, Dutch and currently learning German.
Prior to working for Chanel, Anna was the Corporate Privacy & Data Protection Leader for Europe at GE based in Brussels, serving all European GE businesses on a wide variety of privacy law matters. She was formerly VP & Senior Counsel at First Data Corporation, based in Frankfurt, responsible for global privacy, antitrust and regulatory compliance issues as well as for EU public policy. Prior to this, she was Director & Associate General Counsel to Euroclear Bank SA/NV (former Morgan Guaranty Trust Company of New York), while she also worked at the Bank of New York Mellon and the National Bank of Greece. Her expertise is focused on privacy, data protection, information security, antitrust, regulatory compliance, financial services, e-payments and EU public affairs.
Anna obtained her law degree at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece and has an LL.M degree from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium. She has furthermore completed the ACC mini MBA at Boston University in the United States, International and European Law courses at the Rijksuniversiteit Gent in Belgium and a Multicultural and Gender Studies program at the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands. She is a member of the Thessaloniki Bar in Greece since 1999 and a former member of the Association of Corporate Counsel and the Belgian Institut des Juristes d’Entreprises. She served as alternate director on the board of the Transatlantic Business Council in 2013.
